Penélope Cruz and Luis Tosar will star in “En los márgenes”, a film with social content.

It will be the feature film directorial debut of actor Juan Diego Botto, who has already worked in this role with the segment “Doble moral” in ¡Hay motivo! He expects to start shooting in the last quarter of the year, although there is some uncertainty in this regard due to the coronavirus pandemic. “Insurance companies are reluctant to assume the risk of filming,” says Alvaro Longoria, producer of the film through Morena Films.

“It’s a thriller with several plots revolving around evictions,” says Longoria. It is known that Penélope Cruz will play Azucena, a woman trying to keep her family from being put out on the street, while Luis Tosar will play a lawyer and activist. A third segment follows the story of Teodora, a grandmother about to say goodbye to her family.

“I’ve been working on this project for seven years, but it has gone ahead thanks to Penélope Cruz herself, who proposed it to Morena Films,” says Juan Diego Botto.

Vertice Cine will distribute the film in Spain. Morena Films has achieved enormous success with Bajocero, released on Netflix on January 29, which became the No. 1 film on the streaming platform in 55 countries, including the United States.
